- Aston Villa are one of four Premier League clubs interested in Nottingham Forest’s Neco Williams
- Forest have opened talks over a new contract to end the uncertainty around his future
- The BBC reports the clubs have made “discreet enquiries” about his situation
Aston Villa have made an enquiry regarding the availability of Nottingham Forest full-back Neco Williams ahead of the summer transfer window. Three other Premier League clubs are in the running, but Forest have opened talks over a new contract to fend off interest.
The Welshman has enjoyed a standout campaign for Vítor Pereira’s side, making over fifty appearances across all competitions, and frequently wearing the captain’s armband. His ability to operate on both the left and right of the defence, whilst also showing consistency have caught the attention of several teams in the league.
Securing the signature of the 25-year-old will present a considerable negotiation challenge for the Villa hierarchy. Forest view Williams as an indispensable core member of their team, and have already initiated proactive talks over an improved contract extension to ward off mounting interest.
Although the defender committed to a long-term contract recently, the number of Premier League clubs keen on him has forced the Forest board to act now, in an attempt to secure his future at the City Ground.
Villa face significant competition from Manchester United, Newcastle United, and Everton, who have all, like the Villans, made “discreet enquiries” according to Sami Mokbel from the BBC.
A good option for Villa
Unai Emery’s specific tactical demands for his full-backs to comfortably influence the game at both ends of the pitch, drive the interest from Villa Park. Williams has proven highly effective on either flank, which adds tactical flexibility to a Villa squad balancing domestic ambitions with demanding European campaigns.
Furthermore, with the heightened fixture intensity, integrating a robust, high-energy profile, like Williams, will benefit Villa hugely. His track record of playing heavy minutes under high pressure, as he has done this season, ensures he can easily adapt to the demands of Villa’s schedule.

For Villa, the pursuit of Williams represents a clear intent to continually upgrade their squad depth. The management would probably move Lucas Digne on, leaving room for the Welsh international to rival Ian Maatsen for the left-back position.
Moreover, Emery’s project remains an attractive destination for ambitious players. The opportunity to work under a world-class manager, and potentially in the Champions League, puts them in a good position among the other interested clubs.
However, you would expect it to take a substantial financial package to persuade Forest to come to the negotiating table.
Overall, the upcoming summer window is expected to be a busy period for Villa in reinforcing the squad. Williams stands out as a primary target who fits the exact age profile and Premier League experience required to elevate Villa’s defensive stability.
