Ezri Konsa Faces England Reset After Chaotic Croatia First Half

Ezri Konsa’s World Cup opener has become a proper live test, with England and Croatia reaching half-time level at 2-2 in Dallas.

The Aston Villa defender started alongside John Stones in Thomas Tuchel’s back four, while Morgan Rogers and Ollie Watkins were named among the substitutes.

That alone moved the night beyond selection debate, but the first half quickly became something sharper for Villa supporters watching one of their own on the tournament stage.

The Guardian’s live coverage recorded Harry Kane putting England ahead from a retaken penalty, Martin Baturina levelling for Croatia, Kane heading England back in front and Petar Musa making it 2-2 in stoppage time.

Konsa Has A Second-Half Reset To Attack

Konsa has not just been part of a ceremonial team-sheet moment.

He has been dropped into a game with real defensive strain, including Croatia’s late first-half equaliser and the kind of movement that will give England plenty to solve after the break.

ReadAstonVilla had already covered how Konsa started for England against Croatia while Rogers and Watkins waited. This is now the next chapter.

The first job was to earn Tuchel’s trust. The next is to show, in a messy tournament opener, why Villa supporters have long seen him as more than a calm club defender.

Rogers and Watkins could still add to the Villa angle from the bench.

For now, this is Konsa’s night to steady England and turn a wild opener into something more controlled.
