Aston Villa will not sell Emi Martinez to Manchester United

Aston Villa are reportedly not looking to sell Emi Martinez during the upcoming January transfer window.

According to a recent report from Football Insider, the Midlands club will knock back any potential offers that may come in for the goalkeeper once the winter window opens.

The Argentine was recently linked with a move to fellow Premier League club Manchester United, who apparently have the Villa figure on their radar as a result of there being doubts over David De Gea’s future at Old Trafford.

Villa signed Martinez back in the 2020 summer transfer window from Arsenal in a deal worth a reported fee of £17m.

Since then, the 30-year-old has gone on to make 83 appearances for the Villa Park outfit, which is more than any other club he’s played for throughout his career.

Across those 83 games, the former Arsenal figure has managed to keep 27 clean sheets for his current side.

At the end of his debut campaign with the Midlands club, Martinez was voted as Aston Villa’s 2020/21 Supporters’ Player of the Season.

Having played every minute of league action for Steven Gerrard’s side so far this season, this highlights just how important he is to the team and why the club are not looking to let him leave anytime soon, especially to another Premier League club.

His performances in those appearances have earned the shot-stopper a season rating of 6.92/10 from WhoScored, making him Villa’s highest-rated player, further highlighting how impressive and significant he is for the Villans.

Back in January, the Argentina international signed a contract extension at the club, which should keep him at Villa until 2027.

Taking all of this into account, this latest claim regarding the club’s eagerness to keep hold of Martinez should have Gerrard and a lot of Villa fans thrilled and hopefully put to bed any concern there may be about the goalkeeper’s future at Villa Park.

matchday.
