Aston Villa have brought in a significant number of players since Steven Gerrard was appointed back in November.
One high-profile deal the Villans completed in the early stages of Gerrard’s reign was to bring Philippe Coutinho in on loan from Barcelona during the previous January transfer window.
After scoring five goals and providing three assists in 19 Premier League appearances for the Villa Park outfit last season, the club signed the Brazilian on a permanent basis.
This season, however, has seen a player that Villa didn’t spend a penny on, stake a claim to be seen as Gerrard’s true star player at the club – Jacob Ramsey.
Having appeared in all six of Villa’s Premier League games this season, the midfielder has started five of them, showing how highly rated he is by the manager.
In terms of how impressive he has been for the team this season, Ramsey has shown that his strengths are when he’s in possession of the ball and looking to take it forward.
Specifically, the 21-year-old currently has the highest percentage of passes completed (90.3%) than any other Villa player, as well as having made more key passes (9), shot-creating actions (12), and carries that enter the final third of the pitch (18) than any of his teammates.
This shows just how dangerous the £70k-per-week midfielder is for his team and how tricky he can be to play against for opposition players.
Previously hailed as a “terrific” player by Gerrard, Ramsey has also been labelled as someone who “demands attention” with his skill on the ball according to Joe Cole, which has clearly been shown in abundance this season.
With all of that in mind, it’s clear that Villa have a very talented and promising young player on their hands who has shown that he belongs in the first team and to be starting on a regular basis.
