Aston Villa lost 2-1 away to Arsenal on Wednesday to end the evening in the Premier League relegation zone and John McGinn was one of many players who underperformed.
The 27-year-old has been in poor form of late and was fortunate to make the starting eleven against Arsenal, but Steven Gerrard might be considering a change after McGinn’s latest showing.
Chris Deeley of 90min gave the Scottish international a player rating of 4/10 and said he made such little impact that it would be hard to remember he was on the pitch for three quarters of the game.
Against Arsenal, McGinn played for 72 minutes, had 28 touches, won one aerial duel, completed 77.3% of his 22 passes, failed to create a chance, picked up a booking, failed to make a tackle, had one clearance, failed to make an interception, gave away three fouls and had two successful dribbles.
The 27-year-old has made six appearances in all competitions this season but may be given a rest by Gerrard as his form isn’t getting any better. Playing Manchester City on Saturday will be the biggest test, so Villa can’t afford to carry passengers.
In other news, Emiliano Buendia didn’t take his chance to shine against Arsenal
