‘Fair play’, ‘Well done’ – These Aston Villa fans love Douglas Luiz update

The role of footballers in receent weeks has been questioned, as everyone looks to pull together.

Health secretary Matt Hancock called for Premier Legue players to take a pay cut and it remains to be seen what will happen on that front.

No matter what action is taken though, players up and down the country have been helping in different ways already, with Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz the latest to show some generosity.

That’s after it was revealed that the Brazilian has donated food baskets to people in Nova Holanda, which is in Rio de Janeiro – where the midfielder is originally from.

As you might expect, Luiz’s actions prompted a lot of praise from fans who are delighted to see a Villa player helping out his local community, particularly after Jack Grealish’s recent conduct which brought widespread criticism.

Here we look at some of the responses to the Luiz update on Twitter, with many praising him but with some deciding to, bizarrely,  take the time to mock his performances so far this season.
