Aston Villa consider swoop for Ahmed Hegazi

Aston Villa are considering making a move to sign West Brom defender Ahmed Hegazi, according to Phil McNulty of the BBC.

Villa boss Dean Smith seems keen to improve his defensive options ahead of his side’s first season back in the Premier League and Hegazi is one of the players he could reportedly make a move for.

Smith recently flew to Cairo, along with sporting director Jesus García Pitarch, to watch the Egyptian national team in action in the African Cup of Nations and whilst the duo were there mainly to take a look at winger Mahmoud Trezeguet, they also kept tabs on the West Brom defender.

Albion have already lost Craig Dawson, who has moved to Watford, so new boss Slaven Bilic will be keen to keep hold of Hegazi and as he is under contract until 2022, Villa would likely need to make a big offer to tempt West Brom into selling.
