Harry Redknapp interested in signing Tommy Elphick

Birmingham City manager Harry Redknapp is interested in signing defender Tommy Elphick from Championship rivals Aston Villa, but he says he will not rise to the league’s inflated prices, the Birmingham Mail reports.

Redknapp has struggled in the transfer market so far this summer due to the inflated Championship prices, with most clubs also realising that the Blues have a bigger transfer budget than most.

The 29-year-old Elphick struggled to make an impact at Villa last season and Steve Bruce would be willing to listen to offers for the player.

Harry Redknapp confirms that he would be interested in buying Elphick from Villa but only for the right price.

I like Tommy and I followed Tommy’s career at Bournemouth. He was a fantastic character for Bournemouth in their rise through the divisions. If he’s available at the right price, he’s a player that would interest us – but it has to be the right price.

Aston Villa signed Elphick from Bournemouth last summer in a deal worth around £3 million and the club would be hoping to recoup the majority of the money spent on the defender, should he leave this summer.
