Match Report: Cambridge United 0-3 Aston Villa

Goals from Gary Gardner, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Scott Sinclair gave Roberto Di Matteo’s side a comfortable 3-0 victory against Sky Bet League Two side Cambridge United.

Roberto Di Matteo once again rotated his starting XI, with Jordan Lyden, Rushian Hepburn-Murphy and Kevin Toner all given starts whilst the more experienced members of Villa’s squad were given the night off.

Villa took the lead within eight minutes, with Celtic target Scott Sinclair putting Villa into the lead. Rushian Hepburn-Murphy made it 2-0 within a minute of Sinclair opening the scoring, after he fired past Norris in the Cambridge United goal.

The home side posed little threat to the Villa backline throughout the rest of the game, with Gary Gardner scoring Villa’s third in the 78th minute after a cutback from substitute Andre Green.

Villa’s last fixture of pre-season is against Middlesbrough on Saturday, with the Championship season getting underway against Sheffield Wednesday the following Sunday.
