Di Matteo’s backroom staff revealed

Aston Villa have announced Roberto Di Matteo’s backroom staff, following the Italian’s appointment as manager last week.

The club have confirmed that Steve Clarke will take up the role of assistant manager, whilst former Tottenham coach Kevin Bond will become Villa’s first team coach.

Clarke, who has been out of work since being sacked as Reading manager in December 2015, played alongside Di Matteo for Chelsea from 1996-1998.

Meanwhile, first-team coach Kevin Bond has accumulated a large amount of experience having been a part of the coaching staff at Portsmouth, Southampton, Newcastle United, Tottenham and QPR since retiring from playing in 1996.

Villa have also confirmed the appointment of Massimo Battara and Massimiliano Marchesi as goalkeeping coach and fitness coach respectively.

Massimo Battara replaces Tony Parkes, who was brought in by Tim Sherwood in February 2015. The former Manchester City goalkeeping coach worked with Di Matteo at Schalke, before Di Matteo departed the club in May 2015.

Marchesi, who had previously worked in Saudi Araiba, most recently worked as Inter Milan’s fitness coach.
