Previous Five Meetings: Newcastle United

Aston Villa face Newcastle United this weekend, in what will be Villa’s last home game in the Premier League, for the time being, ending a 28-year spell in the top flight of English football.

It’s fair to say that Villa do not have the best record against Saturday’s opponents, having only won once against the Magpies since their promotion back to the Premier League in 2010 after their one-year spell in the Championship.

In fact, Villa’s last win against Newcastle came in April 2011 at Villa Park, when Villa won 1-0 courtesy of a James Collins header. Since then, Villa’s record against Newcastle stands at drawn four and lost five.

This fixture seven years ago at Villa Park saw Villa relegate Newcastle United to the Championship, with a deflected Gareth Barry strike enough to condemn the Magpies to relegation.
